11.12.2009 Russia Submits Bidding Agreement – Bidding Nation Russia

In line with the regulations, conditions and deadlines governing the bidding process set forth by FIFA for the 2018/2022 World Cup™, the Russian Bid Committee today formally submitted the bidding agreement to the world governing body of football.

Alexey Sorokin, CEO of the Bid Committee and the Russian Football Union (RFU), stated: “I can confirm that we have submitted the relevant document to FIFA and thus have achieved another milestone along the road towards winning the right to host either the 2018 or the 2022 FIFA World Cup™.”

Pursuant to the bidding agreement and in compliance with the bid registration, the bid committee undertakes to submit to FIFA its formal bid plan documentation in the form of the Bid Book that is to be presented to FIFA by 14 May 2010. The Bid Book is an extensive documentation to be compiled by the bidders, detailing their plans in all areas necessary to host the FIFA World Cup™, such as host cities and stadiums, infrastructure in general, road, train and airline networks, safety and security, accommodation, IT & telecommunications, broadcasting, environment, sustainability as well as legacy aspects.

“Russia is a passionate sporting country with a strong sporting culture and a wealth of experience in hosting major sports events in the past and now also in the future, most notably the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi and dozens of international championships over the past ten years”, Sorokin added.

“However, so far, we have never been given the opportunity to also prove our strength with respect to hosting a football event of the magnitude of a FIFA World Cup™. We feel that we are capable of hosting such an event and would love to be awarded this honor and challenge.”

FIFA will award the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups™ at a special meeting of its Executive Committee on 2 December 2010.
