Volga Cluster – Saransk

Saransk is the capital of the Republic of Mordovia and located in central European Russia, in the Volga basin at the confluence of the Saranka and Insar Rivers, about 630 kilometres east of Moscow. It currently has a population of more than 300,000 residents.

Sights

Saransk has many historic architectural sites stemming from its early settlement in the 17th century and its position as a market place from that era and later on.

Football

Mordovia Saransk is the local football club, currently playing in the Russian Second Division, but already having won promotion to the First Division for the 2010 football season.

Stadium

As part of the bid, a special concept for new World Cup stadiums will be designed in line with FIFA requirements.
